Extending from the slopes of Mount Tamalpais to the marshlands of San Francisco Bay, Corte Madera blends the best of small town ambiance, the amenities of urban living and easy access for commuters. Just 12 miles from San Francisco and minutes from the San Rafael Bridge to the East Bay, this town of nearly 10,000 is a draw for young families and people of all ages. Recently, Corte Madera has initiated an Age-Friendly task force, dedicated to creating physical and social environments that support and enhance healthy and active aging, and an optimal quality of life for its older residents.

Two of the County’s largest shopping malls are in Corte Madera. The Village at Corte Madera hosts upscale retailers like Nordstrom, Macy’s and the Apple Store. The beautiful outdoor mall includes a toddler play area with spouting fountains and outdoor dining. Just across the freeway is The Corte Madera Town Center, another outdoor mall with boutique shops, eclectic restaurants and a weekly farmers market.

Corte Madera takes great pride in its parks and open spaces. During spring at adjacent Ring Mountain Preserve, the wildflowers can be as breathtaking as the views of San Francisco. The 620-acre Corte Madera Marsh Ecological Reserve is a coastal salt marsh home for egrets, herons and willets.

Corte Madera is less hilly than its neighbors, and real estate is often priced more moderately. Most of its ranch style homes were built from the 1940s to the ’70s. Many have beautiful views of Mt. Tamalpais.
